On OCtober 27, Victor Yushchenko has met with Finland’s Parliamentary Speaker Paavo Lipponen, the president press office reported.

In the course of the meeting, the participants discussed ways to develop cooperation between Ukraine and Finland.

Before the meeting, Mr. Lipponen introduced members of the Speaker’s Council, heads of parliamentary committees and groups to the President. Mr. Yushchenko told them Ukraine appreciated its relations with Finland.

Speaking about the irreversibility of Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic course, he outlined results of the tenth Ukraine-EU summit, thanking Finland for supporting our bid to join the European Union.

President Yushchenkoinformed the Speaker of steps his government takes to help Ukraine join the World Trade Organization.

The President also said “parliaments of Ukraine and Finland did much to make our nations closer and to create legal fundamentals for our bilateral relations.”

Mr. Lipponen stated that our parliaments were engaged in quite an active dialogue. He said Finnish parliamentarians were following democratic changes and reforms in Ukraine and would spare no effort to help our country on this path. He also expressed hopes Ukraine and Finland would nurture political, economic and trade ties.

Mr. Yushchenko urged Finland's parliamentto recognize the Holodomor as genocide.
