“Russia proposed us to renew talks on the accession to the Common Economic Area (CEA), but I cannot say now how it will be done,” said Vice-PM Azarov.

Since Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus had started working on this project, they have advanced much in it, Vice-PM Azarov stressed. “2005-2006 was lost for the economic integration of our countries. And now it would be difficult now to catch up with the slipped chances rather than in 2004,” mentioned Azarov.

Earlier, RF President Putin opined that the cooperation with the CIS countries is the major priority of the Russian foreign policy. According to his words, the CEA and EvrAZES (European-Asian Economic Association) mechanisms “cannot be ignored.”

As a reminder, Ukraine’s Azarov is not interested much in the CEA as he considers Ukraine should take part in both European markets and Euro-Asian ones.
