Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ukraine Ronald Keller outlines the necessity of stirring up the bilateral economic ties. He revealed Thursday it at a session of the European Business Association held in Donetsk.

“The ties between our countries may be characterised as good ones. President Yushchenko’s visit paid a significant role in them. He disclosed before the Dutch business circles a great potential Ukraine possesses,” said Mr Keller.

In his opinion, Ukrainian businessmen “underestimate the Netherlands’ opportunities.” He urged them to forget fear and enter the Dutch market.

Ukraine’s export to the Netherlands makes 0.5% and Ukrainian investment to the Dutch economy - $900 recently, Mr Keller complained. Nevertheless, he hailed the first “portents of significant increase of the bilateral trade.”

According to the Ambassador’s words, the VAT problems, unpredictable taxation, corruption and protectionism hamper successful development of the commercial and economic relationship of Ukraine and the Netherlands.

However, Dutch Ambassador Keller expressed confidence that the VR and the Cabinet will create a favourable climate for Dutch and Ukrainian business to stir up cooperation as soon as possible.
