Accompanied by Foreign Minister Borys Tarasyuk, Deputy Secretariat Chief of Staff Oleksandr Chalyy and National Bank Chairman Volodymyr Stelmakh, Victor Yushchenko and his wife visit Finland, the president press office reports.

Today he is to meet Finland’s President Tarja Halonen, Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen and Parliamentary Speaker Paavo Lipponen. The targeted topics of discussion are ways consolidating economic, investment and energy ties between Ukraine and Finland.

President Yushchenko will open a business forum “Ukraine: New Opportunities for Business and Investment,” organized by the Confederation of Finnish Industries. He will also attend a ceremony to establisha joint venture Budfarfor-Sanitek and visit the Nokia headquarters.

On October 27, the President is expected to take part in a Ukraine-EU summit. He will meet with President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso and Secretary General of the EU Council Javier Solana.

The summit will focus on the implementation of the Ukraine-EU Action Plan and plans to sign an enhanced agreement, which will enable Ukraine to gradually integrate into Europe’s market, legal and security systems. Its participantsare also going todiscuss principles to create a free trade zone and ways to complete the Odesa-Brody-Plock oil pipeline project. They willsign agreements on readmission and liberalization of visa requirements.
