Sixty years ago Ukraine (being Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic that time – ed.) joined the United Nations Organisation, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Tarasyuk told Tuesday at a press conference dedicated the UN Day.

“Our state is an active UN member assisting the organisation with security, disarmament, economic and social development, human rights and international law protection,” stated Minister Tarasyuk.

Ukraine’s Head of the Foreign Department called the UN one of the priority international organisation which work has produced positive changes in Ukraine and developed the country since 1992. “The UN carries out its activity through wide range of agencies and partnership organisations, cooperating with many interested parties: Ukrainian government, local and international organisations, governments of the foreign countries and with Ukrainian people,” stressed Borys Tarasyuk.

He also recalled that Kyiv UN office was the first among the newest ones in Ukraine, which the UN Secretary General attended in 1993. The UN representative office has launched working in full in the autumn of 1994.

“The UN agencies to Ukraine hold consultations concerning political questions and provide for technical, material and financial assistance,” said Minister Tarasyuk.

The Ukrainian government and the Foreign Ministry highly appreciated the level of collaboration with the UN Head Office in Ukraine.

Francis M O’Donnell, the UN Coordinator for Ukraine, in his turn, thanked Ukraine for close cooperation with the Organisation and appreciated its assistance on the UN path to the democracy, prosperity in the whole world.
