The VR Committee on Science and Education recommends the parliament to reject draft bill on Introduction Changes and Amendments into Certain of the Legislative Acts of Ukraine (regarding the establishment of the educational institutions by the religious organisations).” The draft bill has been submitted by OU MP Volodymyr Stretovych.

As the VR Information Department informs, the document proposes to accord a permission to establish educational institutions to religious organisations registered in accordance with established procedure. The VR Committee has passed a decision not to approve the corresponding draft bill as it “does not agree with the Constitution of Ukraine and does not fit the existing legislation of Ukraine concerning the education, freedom of conscience and religious organisations.

According to part 3 of the article 35 of the Constitution of Ukraine, “church and any religious organisations are separated from the state, and school is separated from church.” According to the Act of Ukraine on Education, the main principals of education are independence from any political parties, public and religious organisations, and the secular education.

MPs also outlined that the Act of Ukraine on Freedom of Conscience and Religious Organisations grants the religious organisations a permission to form Sunday schools and groups in order to provide religious education of children.
