On October 13-22, Kyiv hosts the 53rd International Session of the European Youth Parliament. The Secretary-General of the Council of the European Union and High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana agreed to be patron of the session. Mr Solana wrote: "I think this is an extremely useful forum for dialogue, wich can only serve to promote understanding and friendship amongst the youth of Europe."

Over 300 young people aged of 16-22 are to take part in the event. They will work within the international committees which structure and their orientations correspond to the European Parliament’s one.

The young parliamentarians will address the pressing questions related to Ukraine, particularly, Russian-German Baltic gas pipeline project, HIV/AIDS, traffic in humans etc. As a result of the Parliament’s work, its resolutions if approved by the Session General Assembly will be submitted to the European Parliament, the European Commission and the governmental structures of the countries-members of the Session as an initiative of the European youth.
