The regional TB epidemic picture has been stabilised, Kharkiv Regional State Administration press office informs. The experts note decrease in TB rate by 8.6%, enteric infections – by 30.3%, virus hepatitis – by 2.7 times and meningococcosis – by 1.7 times.
Kharkiv Sanitary and Epidemiological Service (SES) has taken close control of the water supply system of the city and the region. The experts have checked 1,459 central water supply objects and found numerous violations of sanitary regulations. 121 punitive measures were applied to the officials responsible for these incidents. 259 objects have been terminated.
As a reminder, Ukraine failed to stop TB rate in 2005. Ukraine’s damage caused by AIDS/TB exceeds $400 million annually. Every hour four Ukrainians are taken ill with TB and one TB-patient dies.
