On October 5, at 2:00 pm Yevhen Opanasyuk, a program editor of 5 Channel was killed in Kyiv National Economic University where he were studying. According to the forensic medical examination, he died of numerous knife injuring. As the witnesses stated, the murder was committed as a result of scuffle between Yevhen and two other men.

As 5 Channel states, “police arrested two 24 year old suspects in the murder. They fled the scene of the crime but were caught in Brovary. One of them reportedly attended the Kyiv National Economic University together with Opanasiuk. The victim was beaten and stabbed seven times by the men who waited for Opanasiuk to show up at university. Opanasiuk and his fellow student reportedly did have a conflict in the past. Kyiv prosecutors have charged the men with pre-meditated murder.”

The Shevchenko District Prosecutor’s Office has instituted proceedings according to the article 115 of the Penal Code of Ukraine.

Victor Yushchenko has met with Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko and Prosecutor General Oleksandr Medvedko to throw some light on today’s murder of Yevhen Opanasyuk.

Mr. Lutsenko said police were considering “personal antipathy” as the most probable motive.
The President demanded that this crime be resolved as soon as possible and murderers of the journalist found and punished.
