Kyiv law enforcement agencies withdrew over 20,000 pirated school textbooks at the cost of $12,000, the Interior Ministry press office informed.
The police officials had received secret information about existence of the clandestine storage selling pirated textbooks – copies of the educational manuals published in Hymnasia Kharkiv publishing house. The police have conducted the check purchase or purposes of investigation and verification.
Having examined the purchased textbooks, the special investigative commission drew a conclusion that all manuals did not meet any standards of publishing (blurred scripts, toxic colours, very thin paper).
The whole production has been withdrew and delivered to the further analysis. The police are searching out direct producers. The corresponding violation of the law is classified by the article 176 of the Penal Code of Ukraine “Violations of the Property and Contiguous Rights” and shall be punishable by 400 non-taxable minimum incomes or 2-years correctional labours.
The damage caused to the publishing house is estimated at approximately $40,000.
