The President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko has signed the Act of Ukraine #132-V on Approval of the President’s Resolution concerning Ukrainian Peacekeeping Corps providing for the Special Court’s activity in Sierra Leone. The Act was passed by the Verkhovna Rada on September 14.
The UN Resolution of September 19, 2005 commissioned the Mission in Sierra Leone to provide safety for the Special Court on Sierra Leone. It resulted in the necessity to get approval for participation of the Ukrainian peacekeeping forces in the mission.
As a reminder, Ukraine has been participating in the UN Mission in Sierra Leone in accordance of the President’s Decree of November 10, 2003 on Engagement of the Peacekeeping Corps and Personnel in the UN Mission in Sierra Leone and the Act of Ukraine of December 9, 2003 on Approval of the corresponding President’s Decree.
