Victor Yushchenko met with Chairman of the Russian Council of Federation Sergey Mironov during the ceremony devoted to the sixty-fifth anniversary of the Babyn Yar massacre.

They discussed ways to develop and improve bilateral relations, and also spoke about the work of the Yushchenko-Putin Interstate Commission.

Mironov said he enjoyed his participation in memorial events to mark the anniversary. They agreed it was vital to combat xenophobia and anti-Semitism internationally to never let such tragedies happen again.

Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly stated the 1941 Babyn Yar events in Kyiv were among most terrible during the WWII along with the Oswiecim and Majdanek. According to him, Russia takes the tragedy of Babyn Yar as a global catastrophe. Still, anti-Semitism and xenophobia are being revived, having stressed that in many countries processions of fascist thugs are held.

The Kyiv Forum "Let My People Live!", Mironov said, is a call to the world community to be vigilant to manifestations of anti-Semitism and xenophobia. He compared anti-Semitism to international terrorism, which uses the same methods. For the sake of the peaceful future, he said, everybody should join efforts in combating international terrorism. He thanked Ukraine for initiating such an important international forum.
