At a joint press conference with Azeri President Ilham Aliev, Victor Yushchenko has said Ukrtransnafta had suggested that they make a schedule of oil supplies together with the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan to transport oil in the Odessa-Brody oil pipeline, the president press office informs.

Following yestreday’s talks in Baku, Victor Yushchenko has said Ukraine wanted and was ready to produce and sell oil with Azerbaijan.

He said our country was now particularly interested in three projects. Its first goal is to form joint ventures with Azerbaijan to explore oil fields and to produce and sell oil. The second project deals with the pipeline transportation of light oil from Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan to the European market via Odessa and Brody. Third, the countries should formulate joint positions on gas supplies from the Caspian region to the European Union.

“To resume regular – forward – transportation in the Odessa-Brody pipeline, there should be about 4,5-5 million tons of oil in the market every year,” he said.

The Head of State added there should also be enough technical oil to fill Ukrainian pipelines. He said Ukraine’s oil refineries in Nadvirna and Drohobych were capable of purifying that much crude.

President Yushchenko said Ukraine and Azerbaijan could also construct a new refinery and transport oil through the Druzhba pipeline to Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

In his turn,President Aliev said, as a new powerful oil producer, Azerbaijan was going to diversify its supplies, particularly by cooperating with Ukraine.
