Over the first six months of 2006 investments to the Ukrainian economy significantly increased, Cabinet’s press office reported. According to the State Statistics Committee, the growth of direct foreign investments in first half of 2006 reached 1.698 bn. USD. The general amount of foreign investments into Ukraine's economy's, as of July 1, 2006, amounted to18.383 bn. USD.

Among the biggest investors are Cyprus (with investments increased by 433.6 mln USD), France (361.6 mln USD), Great Britain (272.9 mln USD), the Netherlands (270.4 mln USD) and Russia (101.5 mln USD). Big investments also came from Austria, the British Virgin Islands and Poland. The biggest investments were made to the financial sector (592.4 mln USD), immovable property (278.6 mln USD) and industry (423.3 mln USD).

High investment dynamics in early 2006 makes to hope that the plan of investment from non-residents, drafted by the Economics Ministry for 2006, will be implemented. However, some analysts believe these can hardly be considered as real foreign investments, as the bulk of them are foreign investments just formally.
