Following a match between Ukraine and Italy in Hamburg, Victor Yushchenko described our team’s participation in the World Cup quarter-finals as a huge achievement reinforcing Ukraine’s chances to host the 2012 Europe Cup.
The President said Ukrainians welcomed their team as winners despite the loss. The footballers have considerably improved the country’s image and made millions of fans believe in national sport, he added.
“All Ukrainians can now be proud of their team,” the President stated, the press office reported.
The Head of State said the game had been really tense and dramatic, with the national team fighting against one of Europe’s strongest teams. He opined that our players, this year’s debutants, had played quite well and demonstrated their team spirit.
“What is important is that Ukraine has seen the team’s desire to win, which makes us all hopeful to expect many more victories,” he said.
