Ukraine will not abandon the new customs regime for Transnistrian goods at the Moldovan-Ukrainian border adopted on March 3, 2006 despite the economic waste it has incurred, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Boris Tarasyuk said at his meeting with Speaker of Moldova's parliament Marian Lupu, RBC reported.
According to Tarasyuk, Ukraine regards assisting Moldova in restoring its territorial integrity and sovereignty and settling the Transnistrian conflict by peaceful means as its duty.
In turn, the speaker said Moldova highly appreciated Ukraine's contribution to the Transnistria conflict resolution. He added that the Moldovan parliament had passed a package of documents supporting Ukraine's settlement plan. He confirmed it was necessary to resume talks and replace the current inefficient peacekeeping mechanism by an international observer mission in the region.
