Government of Slovak republic allocated 20 thousand euros to Defense Ministry of Ukraine for utilization of surplus ammunition, as military attaché of Slovakia Embassy in Ukraine Juraj Beskid reported.

“Slovakia has delivered 20 ths euros to NATO trust fund, which will finance utilization of ammunition in Ukraine,” said Beskid.

He noted that nomenclature of ammunition and armament, utilization of which is financed by the Alliance, is defined by NAMSO, the NATO Maintenance and Supply Organization.

According to him, the decision to finance utilization of handheld antiaircraft missile complexes first is connected with the threat that this weapon may be potentially used by terrorists.

“Ukraine does not need these complexes, and the armament simply lies inactive in ammunition depots and may fall into terrorists’ hands,” said Beskid. He underlined that NATO and the USA, country which allocated the most means, examined the issue basing on this very point of view.

At the same time the attaché noted that the Alliance would not finance utilization of all ammunition; Ukraine will conduct the most part of this work at its own expense.
