In Bucharest, Victor Yushchenko has met with Romanian President Traian Basescu, President's press office reported.

They discussed economic and political relations between our countries and also considered ways to resolve the most pressing bilateral problems.

The Heads of State agreed to hold negotiations between the foreign ministers of Ukraine and Romania to discuss all these issues in thirty days. They also decided to commission experts of the Presidential Commission to control the situation in the Trans-dniester Republic.

The two leaders then discussed ways to complete the navigable canal from the Danube to the Black Sea. Yushchenko later told journalists he was glad the international community supported this project. He said Ukraine traditionally insisted on preserving the environment when building the canal and added that our country had observed all environmental safety rules when digging its first section.

Yushchenko and Basescu also discussed national minority rights and border cooperation.
