On May 24, 2006 Yuriy Kostenko, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine met with Abubakar Tanco, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nigeria.
In the course of the meeting the parties stated mutual interestedness in further development of all-round mutually advantageous Ukrainian-Nigerian cooperation both on bilateral and international levels, the Foreign Ministry press office reported.
In this context the parties discussed the possibilities to intensify bilateral political dialogue on the highest level. In particular they talked over the prospects of organization of President of Nigeria Mr Oluseegun Obasanjo’ visit to Ukraine, development of the legal basis, further cooperation in the spheres of trade and economic, education and personnel training, agriculture and factory-farming.
The parties declared for creation of Ukraine–Nigeria Intergovernmental Commission to contribute on further development of trade and economic cooperation between two countries.
The interlocutors confirmed mutual interestedness to accelerate cooperation in the framework of international organizations, first of all at the UN, as well as within peacekeeping activity, fighting against terrorism, illegal migration etc.
