On May 21, the Memory Day will be held in Bykivnya forest near Kyiv. The Memory Day commemorates victims of the Communist repressions.
The hierarchies of Ukrainian churches will hold a service for the dead at 12 am. The President of Ukraine, civil and political organisations and the local authorities are due to take part in the meeting-requiem at 1 pm.
Bykivnya burial place dates from the 30-ies. Over 100,000 victims of repressions were buried in the common graves here. The Communist regime blamed fascists for it, but the truth about Bykivnya was revealed only in the end of the 80-ies.
