In a Gazta Wyborcza interview, Victor Yushchenko has said he appreciated the historic reconciliation between Ukrainians and Poles, President's press offcie reported.

“Our nations have been reestablishing cordial relations since 1990. I admire our ability to shake hands and forgive one another in controversial and sensitive issues,” he said, adding that “the desire of the two peoples to learn the historic truth is growing every year.”

“...and so we want to discard many unpleasant things and turn the page. It is important to look at ourselves sometimes, sit at that peace table and utter words that have been concealed for years. This will be enough to leave some events of our history in the past so that it should not deprive us of new prospects and mutual trust,” he opined.

On May 13, Victor Yushchenko and his Polish counterpart, Lech Kaczynski, are scheduled to open a memorial to the fallen Ukrainians in the village of Pavlokoma.
