Chairman of Russia’s State Duma committee on CIS affairs Andrey Kokoshin considers that aspiration of Ukraine’s and Georgia’s politicians to join NATO will lead to complications of social and economic and political situations in these countries.

Claims of Ukraine’s and Georgia’s authorities for NATO membership “will bring nothing good for citizens of these countries,” said Kokoshin Wednesday.

“On the contrary, it will put almost insuperable barrier in all spheres. The matter concerns economic and political spheres. These countries will be neither in the West nor in the CIS,” he pointed out.

In response to the question whether Ukraine’s membership in NATO poses a threat for Russia’s security, Kokoshin declared “such threat might appear.”

“We need to take into account variants of this kind while planning in the sphere of national security, including military planning,” said the deputy.
