Kateryna Yushchenko took part in a ceremony to open the 22nd International Family Congress “Family: A Community of Love.”
In her speech, she said “for Ukrainians, family has always
been the basis to build society,” President's press office reported.
“For many centuries, family traditions and mutual support have been the essential in keeping Ukraine from disappearing. In trying times when the Ukrainian language and faith were prohibited only families could preserve what society failed to give individuals. Family became that significant mechanism to pass on the Ukrainian spirit, language, values, traditions and beliefs from one generation to another.”
Then the President’s wife urged all to renew the traditional system of family values in Ukraine.
“Let us follow the example of the holy family from Nazareth,
this real community of love,” she said.
