In Vilnius, Victor Yushchenko has met with Karel De Gucht, Belgium’s Foreign Minister and OSCE Chairman-in-Office.

They discussed ways to settle the Trans-dniester conflict and resolve the Ukraine-Moldova border issue, president press office reports.

President Yushchenko and Mr. De Gucht agreed to resume active ‘5+2’ (Moldova, Trans-dniester, Russia, Ukraine, OSCE plus USA and EU) talks to settle the conflict.

Then the President said Ukraine would resolutely fight contraband on the Ukraine-Moldova border in accordance with international rules. They agreed that Mr. De Gucht and his Ukrainian counterpart, Borys Tarasyuk, would soon survey the border station together with Moldova’s officials.

Victor Yushchenko also asked the European Union for technical assistance to re-equip the border.
