Moscow rejects vigorously a possibility to revise terms of rent and amount of payment for stay of Russian Black Sea Fleet on the territory of Ukraine, as declared deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Grigory Karasin.

“Revision of such things as rent terms and payment are out of the question. It may lead to dangerous revision of many issues, in which none of the parties is interested,” declared Karasin on the eve of a meeting of Russian-Ukrainian commission of RF BSF, which was scheduled for Thursday.

He underlined that “signed in 1997 basic agreements on conditions of stay of RF BSF in Ukraine were time tested and remain the basis now.”

At the same time Karasin noted that the matter would concern those issues, which had not been settled and had appeared in connection with changes in Ukraine’s legislation and new political reality.

“These are property and financial, military and political, navigation and hydrographic, juridical, ecological and other issues,” explained Karasin, having added that settlement of these issues “would make the conditions of activity of the fleet more stable, and life of military men more comfortable.”
