At a meeting with students and professors of the Latvian University, Victor Yushchenko opined that pre-election anti-NATO slogans did not reflect the public mood.
The Head of State added that some politicians had been trying to earn electoral dividends by broaching this controversial subject. Mr. Yushchenko said he was convinced that Ukraine should carry out programs together with NATO countries to make the population aware of what the alliance does and how it functions, the president press office reports.
The President claimed that Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic course was supported by the majority of Ukrainians.
“There is no profound discussion of this issue,” he said.
