In an interview with the National Television Channel, Victor Yushchenko said it was incumbent on Ukraine’s government to support the people that chose to live in the Chornobyl zone.
“We must support these 301 people, and our policy must be positive to them,” he said, adding that he supported the Chornobyl residents morally and never blamed them for deciding to stay in the polluted area.
The President said these people should enjoy medical and municipal services and have fuel and transport. (When Yushchenko was last visiting the zone a few months ago, he insisted on providing electricity and firewood for the families.)
