Victor Yushchenko took part in a memorial service and a ceremony to lay flowers at the Monument to the Chornobyl Heroes to mark the twentieth anniversary of the world’s worst nuclear disaster, President's press office reported.

Premier Yuriy Yekhanurov, Verkhovna Rada Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn, NSDCU Secretary Anatoly Kinakh, First Deputy Chief of Staff Ivan Vasyunyk, and Kyiv Mayor Leonid Chernovetsky attended the ceremonies.

They observed a one-minute silence and then lit candles at the Chornobyl Church and spoke with families of the Chornobyl rescuers and survivors.
