Victor Yushchenko has decorated Montserrat Caballé, the world’s most famous opera singer, with the Order of Saint Olga.
He presented it to Mrs. Caballé before her concert with Volodymyr Gryshko in Kyiv. The President said it was given to the diva for her outstanding artistic achievements as a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador. The prima donna said she was very moved to get the award.
The Head of State, who came to enjoy the performance with his children, Andriy and Lina, described the concert as “a great honor for our country’s musical life.”
Premier Yuriy Yekhanurov, Culture Minister Ihor Likhovy, and First Deputy Chief of Staff Ivan Vasyunyk attended the concert.
