In response to Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Tarasyuk’s statement on possible membership in the EU for Ukraine in 2015, Emma Udwin the spokeswoman of Eurocommissioner for the External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy says that the EU is not going to answer in the affirmative so far. She revealed it in the interview to Deutsche Welle.
According her words, the EU positively assessed Kyiv’s great motivation regarding the integration in the European Union. However, Brussels’ current plans concern the coming discussions focused on conditions of new agreement on the cooperation and partnership. Regarding the coming events, the question of the membership is not on the agenda, she specifies.
“We are willing to extend the relationship with Ukraine within the aspect of the neighborhood policy and we are preparing to the consultations related to the aspects of the new agreement with the future Ukrainian government. Nevertheless, this document does not provide a final answer to the question on Ukraine’s membership in the EU,” stressed Emma Udwin.
Brussels expects the new Cabinet to use what the EU has been already proposed to Ukraine and to focus its attention on implementation of the reforms instead of the membership question.
