Ukraine’s integration into NATO should not be an obstacle for Ukraine-Russia relationship, the President of Ukraine Yushchenko said in the interview to El Pais. It was his response to the question concerning possible impacts of parliamentary election and Russian energy policy on Ukraine’s integration particularly into NATO.
“Regarding the influence of Russia on Ukraine’s integration into NATO, I would prefer Russia to avow its position in order our integration would be painless and would not damage our bilateral relations,” said President Yushchenko.
“The strategy of our national security provides for the accession into the North Atlantic Organization and the parliament has approved of it. Thereby, the political decision was passed but there are other mechanisms as well which may intensify or delay this process,” noted Victor Yushchenko.
