In a radio address to the nation, Victor Yushchenko summed up results of the agricultural development in 2005 and outlined priorities for 2006, President's press office reported.

He said the government had increased agricultural salaries by 40%, developed the food industry, better funded agrarian programs, and stimulated Ukraine’s agricultural export. The President added that there were obvious achievements in the field of cattle-breeding: “For the first time over the past years this industry has become more or less profitable.”

The Head of State complimented the government of Yuriy Yekhanurov on their effective performance: “Their policies helped complete this year’s sowing campaign in time. Our farmers had enough gasoline and seeds.”

Mr. Yushchenko reiterated that Ukrainian villages would first receive ten billion hryvnyas to develop medicine and education.  He also urged all to more actively cooperate with agencies that protect Ukrainian farmers.  The President added that one of the tasks of the new Verkhovna Rada would be to elaborate and approve state programs to develop so-called green tourism and promote entrepreneurial activities in rural areas.
