President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko considers it a big mistake that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine did not increase passing barrier on parliamentary elections to five percent.

“It was Rada’s big mistake that it did not increase passing barrier to five percent, but kept three percent,” said Yushchenko during press conference, ForUm’s correspondent reported.

The President noted that the very three-percent barrier caused such great number of parties, running for parliament’s seats; and each of these parties felt like Napoleon. According to him, it also caused such big size of the ballot.

Yushchenko expressed his indignation over presence of parties with shady past. He underlined that it proved the idea to abolish immunity of a deputy, as majority of new elected deputies ran for seat to escape justice.

Yushchenko considers that the actual issue for today is abolishment of immunity of a deputy and equality of all citizens before the law.
