Barroso underlined that the EU did not have consensus of opinion concerning further extension. He also declared that relations with Ukraine would develop further with the framework of partnership program.
“I am convinced Ukraine has European future. But, frankly speaking, the European Union can not propose new prospective membership for other countries for the moment. We need unity among country-members. The only thing we can do is to determine frameworks of neighbouring policy and to cooperate with Ukraine as closely as possible. We are faithful to the idea of helping Ukraine and Ukrainian people,” said Barroso during the summit Council of Europe – the EU in Strasburg.
