IRI observation delegation states the parliamentary election of March 26 was conducted according to the international standards and Ukrainian electoral legislation, IRI Senior Vice President Georges A. Fauriol told.

In his opinion, it was the most open election in the whole post-Soviet history. The very atmosphere in Ukraine assisted the citizens in voting without any fear.

The parliamentary election-2006 and the presidential election-2004 differ in the usage of the administrative resource by the authorities. There is no usage of it during the recent election, Mr. Fauriol stressed.

IRI advised Verkhovna Rada to pass the law regulating the formation of the voter’s electronic database of Ukraine. “The e-database would provide more correct voter’s list,” explained Mr. Georges A. Fauriol.

IRI Senior Vice President pledged to render IRI in-depth report.

IRI observers worked in Donetsk, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Odesa, Luhansk, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Ternopil regions and Crimea. There were no serious violations of the election procedure, Mr. Fauriol noted.
