Victor Yushchenko and National Bank Chairman Volodymyr Stelmakh discussed banking issues.

Stelmakh said the National Bank had inspected nineteen banks and particularly Elita-Center financial partners and assured the Chief of State that these banks worked legally and had not transferred any currency to foreign countries and hence had no relationship to that scandalous fraud, the president press office informed.

Then Yushchenko and Stelmakh discussed mechanisms to prevent banks from being involved in such machinations and protect investors. They also spoke about the current state of Ukraine’s currency market. The President asked the NBU Chairman to keep society fully informed in order to disprove political and populist statements about the hryvnya instability.

“At the moment, there are no reasons for the currency exchange rate to change suddenly, and the market is stable and predictable,” Stelmakh said.
