Yesterday, at the meeting with students of Taras Shevchenko's National University, Victor Yushchenko said Ukraine should consider the pros and cons of NATO integration and make the people aware of all functions and tasks of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
The President thinks the citizens of Ukraine obviously lack knowledge about the NATO. He reiterated that the organization carried out a "single European house" concept based on common economic, humanitarian, social and defense policies.
“When we discuss ways to integrate economic and social values, we must immediately look at our defense concept,” he remarked, President's press office reported.
The Head of State said such important decisions can only be made at nationwide referendums.
“Without a referendum nobody will join NATO, the EU or any other international organization,” he stressed but urged all not to use the issue politically.
Then Yushchenko said he was pleased with our relationswith the NATO and reminded those present that we jointly implemented many programs.
