During a lecture at the Shevchenko National University, Victor Yushchenko said Ukraine’s membership in the Bologna Process would help the country join the European Union.

“We are speaking about serious changes, for it will help us unify curriculums and academic specialties,” he said, President's press office reported.

The Head of State reiterated that Ukrainian universities still trained specialists whose diplomas are not recognized abroad. As member of the Bologna process, Ukraine will adapt its educational standards to European norms.

The President also said our graduates would be able to find better jobs with internationally recognized diplomas and added that he was convinced this would provoke no brain drain.

Then Yushchenko spelled out educational reforms the government plans to introduce. They also intend to root out corruption in schools, particularly during entrance exams.

“This is what we want to start doing in education this April,” he said.

The President also reminded those present that the so-called budget education rate had grown from 47% to 54% last year.
