President Victor Yushchenko, Prime Minister Yuri Yekhanurov, other top officials and deputies laid flowers at the Taras Shevchenko Monument to mark the 192nd birthday of the Great Kobzar.
Later Victor Yushchenko will meet with students of the Taras Shevchenko University in order to give a lecture on the development of Ukrainian culture and spirituality.
The President is also scheduled to take part in a Shevchenko Prize ceremony at the National Opera House.
