On March 6-7, 2006 First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Anton Buteiko as a special representative of Ukraine paid a working visit to the Portugal Republic in order to hand over a letter of President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko to President of the Portuguese Republic Jorge Sampaio on cooperation between Ukraine and NATO.
While staying in Lisbon Anton Buteiko held talks with President of the Assembly of the Republic (parliament of Portugal) Mr Jaime José Matos Da Gama, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the MFA of Portugal Mr João Gomes Cravinho and State Secretary on National Defence and Naval Affairs of the Ministry of Defence of Portugal Mr Manuel Lobo Antunes.
In the course of the meetings the main attention was focused on cooperation of our country with NATO and the EU. There were also discussed a large number of issues as to the intensification of Ukrainian-Portuguese cooperation in different spheres.
Besides in the framework of the visit the First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine met with representatives of the Ukrainian community in Portugal. He also handed over to the pupils of Ukrainian Saturday school “Divosvit” of the Union of Ukrainians in Portugal collected works of Taras Shevchenko.
