Signing the protocol on mutual access to commodities and services markets with the United States will help double Ukraine's exports in 2007, the Ukrainian Economy Ministry Arseny Yatsenyuk said Tuesday, RIA Novosty reports.

The ministry said Ukraine's exports to the U.S. will grow 1.5-fold in 2006 and twofold in 2007.

During talks with the U.S., the Ukrainian delegation had managed to defend interests of strategic sectors of the national economy, such as agriculture and metallurgy, the ministry said.

"Ukraine has preserved broad opportunities to support national agriculture producers in the future and ensured the protection of its interests in the sphere of access of American agricultural products to its market," the ministry said.

It also said the sides had agreed to preserve current customs duties in metallurgy, and created preconditions for reducing administrative regulations, which could boost the development of medium-sized business.
