On Monday Presidents of Moldova and Ukraine Vladimir Voronin and Victor Yushchenko discussed the situation on the Moldavian-Ukrainian border in a telephone talk, as Voronin’s press office informed.
“The parties have exchanged their opinions about the situation on the border and agreed to maintain close contact in order to inform each other about the problem,” the press office reported.
On March 3 Ukraine imposed new rules that now require all cargo to be cleared by Moldovan customs officers.
Automobiles and train cars had been delayed at the crossing point, and some of them were sent back to Transdniester. Moldova was not letting through any vehicles that did not have proper customs stamps.
In its turn, administration of Transdniester blocked the railway thoroughfare on its territory. As a result, cargo trains take a detour around Transdniester, through the north of Moldova.
