Shakhtar will go into the second leg of their tie against Lille boosted by the return of influential holding midfielder Tymoschuk. The Ukrainian Premier League outfit’s captain made his comeback as a substitute in last week’s defeat in Lille but should start on Thursday, while Nigerian striker Julius Aghahowa could also feature after returning from African Cup of Nations duty. The club, who were not in action at the weekend due to the winter break in Ukraine, have no injury worries although Dmytro Shutkov could replace Bohdan Shust in goal, UEFA informed.

Looking ahead to the return match, Shakhtar President Rinat Akhmetov said: “It was very important that we scored two late goals in the first leg, to keep the tie alive. It could be cold in Donetsk when Lille arrive but we don’t want to simply rely on the weather. We want to succeed by our performance. We can beat Lille and qualify for the next round.”
