Victor Yushchenko telephoned Canadian Premier Stephen Harper and congratulated him on winning January elections and being confirmed as prime minister. Then they discussed bilateral relations between Ukraine and Canada. The President particularly said he wanted more Canadian investors to come here.

Yushchenko and Harper also spoke about this year’s vote in Ukraine. The Head of State said our country appreciated what Canadian observers did during the 2004 presidential elections and added that we were ready to host international observers this March.

The President opined that Canadian Days scheduled to be organized in Ukraine this May would help promote Ukrainian-Canadian relations.

The leaders also broached the subject of the twentieth anniversary of the Chornobyl accident. Yushchenko said he hoped Canada would encourage the world community to resolve a range of Chornobyl problems.
