Victor Yushchenko said Ukraine had insisted on making all participants of the gas market transparent since the very beginning of Ukrainian-Russian gas talks and claimed that our position had not changed. He reiterated that our country had decided to end all murky barter operations in energy relations and declared its determination to follow market rules, the President press office reported.

The signed agreement helped us resume suspended gas supplies to Ukrainian consumers during the most trying period of this year’s heating season and receive the cheapest gas in Europe.

The President pledged to end all shady schemes in the gas sector and said the government would have to search for new forms of cooperation with Russia on the local gas market if it was necessary.

Victor Yushchenko clearly understands why NGOs, politicians, businessmen and international agencies are worried about the lack of information about RosUkrEnergo, founded by Gazprombank (Russia) and Raiffeisen Investment (Austria), and its founders. However, all attempts of the Ukrainian side to receive this information failed. Having no relationship to this company, Ukraine cannot but respond to the facts undermining its reputation.

“Willing to build transparent gas relations between Ukraine and Russia and being committed to market principles, I delegate the government to collect full information about RosUkrEnergo, check its work and make these facts public,” he said.
