Victor Yushchenko met with Volodymyr Lytvyn, Ukrainian Parliament Speaker, Sergey Mironov, Chairman of the Russian Council of Federation, Nino Burjanadze, Georgian Parliament Speaker, Gennadiy Novitsky, Chairman of the Belarus Council, Nurtay Abykayev, Chairman of the Kazakh Senate, and other delegates of the CIS Inter-parliamentary Council Assembly.

In his opening statement, the President said: “We think institutions you all represent will help us forge closer legislative and later economic ties with your countries,” presidential press office reported. 

Then he asked the delegateswhat issues they had discussed. Yushchenko also said it was necessary to more actively consider initiatives made by the Ukrainian side at an August CIS summit in Kazan. He believes it will help develop economic and humanitarian cooperation within the CIS and in bilateral relations.
