On February 16, NSDCU (National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine) special session will consider the question block consisting of protection of national interests of Ukraine and accomplishment of base agreement on Black sea base lease by Russia, NSDU Secretary Anatoly Kinakh told yesterday in 5 Channel air.

He also informed that the decision to hold the first session of the special sub-commission was made during the negotiations with Russia yesterday. The sub-commission will be a part of Yushchenko-Putin intergovernmental commission.

Russian and Ukrainian Foreign Ministers will preside the session. According to Kinakh, all shady moments of Russian Black Sea Fleet dislocation in Crimea must be cleared up.

He stressed that Ukraine strictly meets all obligations of the base agreement of May 28, 1997. “But ‘ties free diplomacy’ since that time has led to lots of questions,” said Kinakh. He defined more exactly that the transfer to Ukrainian jurisdiction of hydrographic objects, lighthouses including, land lease, Sevastopol social sphere and environmental protection – no questions were settled.

Kinakh noted that in the nearest time “Ukraine will assume all measures within the framework of Ukrainian laws as well as within international law in order to protect of Ukrainian interests.”

NSDCU Secretary reminded that for the present moment Ukraine has ratified all agreements of the international maritime law. “Ukraine as an independent country is responsible for secure navigation in its territorial waters,” concluded Anatoly Kinakh.
