Victor Yushchenko met with Hans Blix, Head of the Chornobyl Shelter Fund Donor Assembly, presidential press office reported.
The President thanked his vis-à-vis for his “colossal work” in Ukraine: “We really appreciate what the EBRD does and what you personally do to adequately respond to all challenges we associate with Chornobyl.”
Yushchenko added that the Chornobyl accident was the challenge for the whole world and reiterated that no formula to solve the problem had been discovered yet.
The Head of State expressed confidence that all participants of the Shelter Project and other projects would “formalize all these initiatives” by the twentieth anniversary of the disaster.
The President also said he was convinced that works should already be started at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Yushchenko confessed that he was worried that all Chornobyl projects were implemented with delays. He insisted that it was necessary to set new deadlines and to involve “more responsible” and reliable companies in executing them.
Foreign Minister Borys Tarasyuk and Emergency Minister Victor Baloha attended the meeting.
