“When there are cameras at
a court sitting, it makes many participants of the sitting feel responsible,”
declared Mykola Katerynchuk, the head of the Central executive committee of
NSNU, commenting on the draft law “About introduction of changes to some
legislative acts of Ukraine” (on a guarantee of openness and transparence of a
court process), that had been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada. “First of all,
it favours justice”, he added.
“This bill is elaborated
and submitted by the VR faction of NSNU party. The changes proposed to the
Civil Code, the Economic Code and the Administrative Legal Proceedings Code
will provide access to court sittings for Mass Medias,” people’s deputy noted.
“In fact, it is one of
steps towards reforming the judicial system in 2006 provided by the
pre-election program of “Our Ukraine” Bloc. Legal proceedings will be
accessible, corruption will be stopped and faith of people will be restored. Transparence
of the court sittings plays an important role,” Mykola Katerynchuk emphasized.
