Ihor Bakai, former head of State Affairs Department of Ukraine, must be conveyed to Ukraine to appear before court, as declared Kyryl Kulikov, head of National central bureau of Interpol in Ukraine, during today’s press conference.

“Our position is the following: Bakai is a citizen of Ukraine,” he underlined. According to Kulikov, General Office of Public Prosecutor of Ukraine discussed with Russian Prosecutor’s Office a detachment of Ukrainian investigator to RF for conducting inquisitional examination.

“General Prosecutor’s Office of Russia agreed to receive Ukrainian investigator, but Office of Public Prosecutor of Ukraine considered it inexpedient, as it was too expensive to detach an investigator to Russia. What Bakai has stolen milliards is not expensive, but to detach an investigator is expensive,” noted Kulikov.

As a reminder, October 13, 2005 Kyryl Kulikov stated that the case of Ihor Bakai should be delivered to General Prosecutor’s Office of Russia. He noted that there is convention on criminal, family and economic cases, according to which Bakai’s case is delivered to RF Prosecutor’s Office.

“Ihor Bakai is a citizen of Russia. In accordance with Constitution of RF and international right, Bakai will answer for his crime before Russian administration of justice. Bakai was given the Russian citizenship for outstanding achievements in science and art,” noted Kulikov at that time.
